One-stop center
Statistically, women who are the victims of crimes and atrocities are often not able to spend money to fight for themselves and their rights. These women have nowhere to go as they are destitute and in need of outside intervention for the betterment of the standard of living their lives. This is where the Sakhi- One Stop centre provides free of cost counseling, information as well as help on the proceedings of paperwork if they have filed any complaints and also provides with legal aid as private lawyers are not affordable to many.
There are cases where the lawyer may or may not take a case pro-bono. Hence, the organization requires, in such cases, funding, in order to be able to take the case through till the end. The Swadhar Greh Yojna provides temporary/ transitional living space with all necessities including mental, physical, legal, nutritional help as well as social security. This scheme is also supported by the Central Government which ensures to take care of provision of land as well as construction costs of the Swadhar Greh and all the facilities required in the centre. The State Government sends the funds to the District Magistrate directly to be sent to the One Stop Centre in that particular area.
Most of the women, who are from economically weaker sections, do not have basic and proper education which is why they suffer more when they are trying to seek social justice. Education has been and always will be a necessity in order for anyone to stay relevant to the society. However, providing formal education becomes difficult because of the stigmas related to age and sometimes gender. In order to provide a safe environment for lifelong learning and also training in vocational skills and development as well as employment, the Support to Training and Employment Program (STEP) is implemented. The Government of India provides with 90% of the operating costs and the 10% has to be borne by the implementing agency. This is done with the intention that the beneficiaries of this scheme will one day be employed into the institution and then help the project be self-sustainable.
